UPCOMING EVENTS

Flag Raffle

20140303_100322FOM will be raffling off an American flag that was flown over the United States Capitol. Mitchell’s Congressional Office flew the flag for Friends of Mitchell on August 26, 2013 (the first day of school) and the flag comes with a certificate to this effect. Tickets can be purchased in the Parent Room during meetings or at the front desk of the school every Friday between 10:45-1:00. Tickets are 1 for $2 or 3 for $5. The raffle will be held Friday, March 14th at 1 PM.

Mitchell Teaching Garden

With the guidance of Ms. Love and Ms. Fanelli, Mitchell School has been selected as a Cook County Farm Bureau Garden Grant recipient for 2014! As the grantee, Mitchell received $300 plus an additional resource, a local University of Illinois-Extension Master Gardener, to assist in the garden program. The grant promotes wellness activities for our Girls on the Run program and aligns with Mitchell’s Healthy School Initiative for the entire school community.

After receiving the American Heart Association Teaching Garden Grant and Golden Shovel Award in 2013, the Garden Team received congratulatory news from AHA and corporate sponsor, AETNA, to extend their commitment to Mitchell for 2014. This $1000.00 gift allows the Schoolyard Teaching Garden to thrive for another growing season and promotes hands-on investigations of nutritious fruits and vegetables for Mitchell students.

Please consider joining the Garden Team. Involvement may include an ongoing summer stewardship to one time events such as spring planting with students and/or early summer/fall harvesting, and voice in future grant planning. Please visit the Friends of Mitchell website for more information and to sign up.

Evening of Dreams

Tickets will be for sale at the front desk of the school every Friday 10:45-1:00 through March. Tickets will also be available the week of March 31st on the playground during pick up, through the flyer being sent home in your child’s folder next week, or on the Friends of Mitchell website. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door.

Volunteers are needed to ensure Evening of Dreams is a smashing success. If you have time to donate to setting up, tearing down, or during the event please visit the Friends of Mitchell Volunteer Center or email Cynthia Bednarz at [email protected] to volunteer.
