This year we are working to fund new bottle filler drinking fountains for the school as a part of the ReThink Your Drink campaign. We have a donation of a new HYDY water bottle for each student at Mitchell Elementary!
ReThink Your Drink
ReThink Your Drink campaign will hit the halls of Mitchell Elementary School on Friday May 1st and continue throughout the month of May, the first annual Wellness Month at Mitchell. Our goal is to raise awareness towards the health benefits of drinking water instead of sugary drinks such as sports drinks, soda and juice. We are also fundraising to purchase and install three water bottle filling stations throughout Mitchell Elementary School. As a school we are constantly working to improve the health and wellness of our students. Mitchell is working toward the installation of water bottle filling stations to provide healthier hydration to combat the child obesity epidemic and reduced plastic waste as an alternative to disposable bottles.
The goals for this project are abundant availability of drinking water, healthier hydration to combat the child obesity epidemic and reduced plastic waste as an alternative to disposable bottles. Simply, we want MItchell students, teachers, staff and community members to ReThink Your Drink and choose water as their primary hydration choice. Our Wellness Committee strives to achieve Healthy CPS Status in all areas and the water filling stations will help Mitchell achieve the LearnWell status. We would be happy to discuss our wellness initiatives and events in greater detail. You can read more about the LearnWell portion of the Healthy CPS initiative here.
